Little Nightmares II Review
Little Nightmares II drags you right back into its twisted, toybox world of distorted monsters and haunting imagery and it’s every bit as unsettling as you’d hope. This time, you step into the shoes of Mono, a quiet boy trying to survive alongside Six, the raincoat-wearing icon from the first game. Between the terrifying Teacher, the twitching Hospital mannequins, and the eerie hum of the Pale City, every moment feels tense and unpredictable. It’s a mix of clever design, creepy storytelling, and just enough frustration to keep your pulse racing. While it doesn’t quite capture the same magic as the original, Little Nightmares II still delivers a beautifully grim and unforgettable horror experience that keeps you guessing until the very end.

Gameplay – 8/10
Little Nightmares II delivers exactly what fans of the first game loved: eerie exploration, clever puzzles, and heart-pounding chase sequences, but this time with a few new tricks. You play as Mono, a quiet boy wearing a paper bag over his head, working your way through a sick and twisted world alongside Six, the raincoat-wearing protagonist from the first game. The addition of a companion changes the gameplay dynamic as you’ll need to work together to solve puzzles and survive some horrifying encounters. The enemy variety is fantastic. The Teacher’s neck-stretching pursuit is pure nightmare fuel, and the Hospital mannequins that only move when you’re not looking create some of the game’s best (and most stressful) moments. Some puzzles lean more on trial-and-error than logic, which can be frustrating when the solution feels unclear, but the tension and atmosphere keep you pushing forward.
Story – 8/10
The storytelling here is subtle and mysterious, told through environments and actions rather than dialogue. You slowly uncover the disturbing truth behind the Pale City and the ever-present Signal Tower, all while Six’s behavior grows increasingly unsettling. It’s fascinating and darkly emotional, but compared to the first Little Nightmares, this sequel doesn’t quite hit the same level of intrigue or surprise. Where the first game felt hauntingly original, this one sometimes feels like it’s echoing familiar beats. While still powerful, the story just isn't quite as fresh. That said, the final act is unforgettable, leaving players with one of the most chilling endings in modern horror gaming.
Graphics – 8/10
The visuals in Little Nightmares II are stunning in the most grotesque way possible. Every location drips with atmosphere from the rain-soaked city streets to the flickering lights of the decrepit hospital. The lighting and shadows do much of the storytelling here, making each room feel alive and threatening. The animation work on the enemies is absolutely is top-notch. It’s a masterclass in visual design and environmental storytelling, even when you’re too scared to look closely. I would rate this section even higher if things weren't just too dark and greyed out in some areas.
Sound & Music – 9/10
The sound design is nothing short of brilliant. The creak of floorboards, the faint hum of static, the muffled laughter of unseen horrors. Everything works together to keep you on edge. The minimalist soundtrack heightens the tension, swelling only in the most intense chases. Enemy sound cues are especially effective; you’ll know exactly when to hold your breath and hide. The ambient soundscape does so much of the heavy lifting in creating that oppressive sense of dread that defines Little Nightmares II.
Controls – 7/10
The controls are mostly solid, though still a bit clunky in tight moments. Precision isn’t the game’s strongest point, and you’ll occasionally mistime a jump or grab due to perspective or camera angle. That can make some of the faster-paced chase sequences frustrating, especially when you’re seconds away from escaping. Still, the movement feels deliberate and weighty, adding to the sense of vulnerability that makes these games so tense.
Final Verdict – 8/10
Little Nightmares II is a beautifully unsettling journey through a world that’s equal parts nightmare and wonder. It expands on the first game with more enemies, deeper environments, and a surprisingly emotional story, even if it doesn’t quite capture the same lightning-in-a-bottle magic. Some puzzles can be aggravating, and the controls occasionally get in the way, but the atmosphere, sound design, and visual storytelling more than make up for it. It’s creepy, clever, and full of moments you won’t soon forget a worthy sequel that solidifies Little Nightmares as one of the best modern horror series around. The ending will stick with me for quite a while.
