According to sources at Blockbuster, Sony is permanently dropping the price of the 40GB model of the PlayStation 3 starting Sunday.
The price drop would put the 40GB model to $359, while the PS3 40GB bundle with an HDMI cable, Spiderman the movie and Transformers the game will go for $399. The price drop would definitely help Sony with its struggles in the market. As reported earlier in the week, the Xbox 360 has been outselling the PS3 in Japan for two straight weeks.
Sony has struggled with sales of the PS3 from the start, and they are hoping that the new price drops would help them in sales of the console. If Sony wants to stay in the console race, they have to come out aggressively, price competitively or the PlayStation 3 could be in big trouble.
