Sony has just announced at the Tokyo Game Show, that PSP gamers will be getting official access to the PlayStation Network Store in Japan, through their PSP’s starting October 15th.
The new firmware update will give PSP users access to the PlayStation Network and Store using their PSP’s, instead of a PC or PlayStation 3 console. With this new firmware update, players will be able to download full PSP titles such as LocoRoco 2, Patapon 2 and the new Resistance Retribution directly to their PSPs, without the use of a UMD. As it looks like Sony is focusing on digital distribution for the PSP in the future.
No announcements have been made at this time regarding a North American or European release, but it seems that a global release will follow shortly thereafter.
