Nintendo planning to build online community.
Nintendo Wii and DS are become almost as ubiquitous as their starlight sales reputation. The platforms are currently crushing the software sales charts across the board, with almost no end in sight. While Wii Music may not have been the splash that Nintendo was hoping, that won’t stop the systems from selling out during the holiday shopping season.
With so many users, including users new or recently re-introduced to video games, it seems a shame that Nintendo has not been able to offer an Xbox Live-esque experience. Fear not, for Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime says such a community is coming, it will just be Nintendo’s take on the idea.
“Nintendo has always had a vision on community. The issue is that we define community differently than our competitors…Our consumers do want a sense of community, and we’re going to deliver that — but in a way that’s unique to Nintendo.”
With new online enabled products like Animal Crossing City Folk and Wii Speak launching left and right, Nintendo better hurry up.
