Nintendo’s financial report paints pretty picture for the Big N and its hardware.
I won’t bore you with the business mumbo-jumbo but will report to you the cold hard facts about how well Nintendo is doing right now. The firms latest financial reports state that they made an impressive 36% this past quarter. That is during the supposed “economic downturn” and lower consumer spending that we are experiencing. Once again, it seems that the video game market may be one of the last markets to get hurt in a recession.
Obviously, if they are making so much money then their goodies should be performing well. The report also states that the Nintendo DS (fat and Lite) surpassed the GBA in units shipped during the quarter. Nintendo claims that 84.33 million units are in gamer’s hands, while only 81.36 GBA units made it out their door. The Wii is also performing quiet well, with 34.55 million units moved to date.
Software sales are strong as well, with Nintendo’s own products reigning supreme. The DS is topped by their killer-app, Nintendogs, and Wii Fit is in the lead for their home system. In total the two platforms have shipped over 650 million titles.
