Nintendo Dominating This Year’s Single SKU Software Sales

Nintendo claims four of top five spots for software sales.

According to a recent number crunching session by Gamasutra, Nintendo is dominating software sales this year with four of the top 5 selling titles belonging to Nintendo’s hardware. Making matters even more impressive for the company, and happier shareholders, each of those four titles was created by the company.

The sole title not developed by Nintendo or on a platform of there’s, Grand Theft Auto IV for the Xbox 360 ranks in at third. We should point out that the calculations are based on per SKU, therefore, multiplatform titles aren’t represented fairly. We hear at The Gamer’s Voice are fairly certain that the PS3 version of GTAIV sold more than 300,000 copies, which would put it ahead of the current number 1, Super Smash Bros. Brawl for Wii.

There is enough time left in the year for Wii Fit to actually overtake Smash Bros., as the title is still selling at a stellar rate relatively speaking. If Wii Play continues its performance, then the game with a “free” controller will make it into the Top 5 for a second straight year. An immensely impressive feat in the video game industry.
