Microsoft announces that Gears of War 2 has sold over two million copies.
The sequel to 2006’s smash hit has done quite well for itself. The latest product from the action brain that is CliffyB and Epic Games has sold over two million copies since its release last Tuesday. For comparison, the original title sold its first million copies in twice the amount of time.
The statement also gave out some fun facts about what gamers have done with the title:
- 1 million of the 2 million players have logged into Xbox Live.
- 19 million achievements have been unlocked.
- A dedicated few users have unlocked the “Seriously 2.0” achievement. Wow.
The title will likely continue to top sales charts into the holiday season. At this rate, Gears of War 2 may be able to approach the rampant success of Grand Theft Auto IV and Halo 3. Epic Games previously stated that there is not going to be a PC version.
CliffyB had something to say about the title’s success. Who would expect anything less? “We were so excited to launch Gears of War 2 on the same day all around the world, something virtually unheard of in the games business. We wanted our fans, no matter where they live, to have a shared experience on day one, and that’s exactly what’s happened.”
