Google’s ambitious free-to-play MMOG is shutting down in December.

Google announces today that the MMOG they had been developing, without leaks, for years is being shut down. The project was to be a platform for online games, but has not panned out the way Google foresaw, however, the company is not letting the decision get them down.

“Google has always been supportive of this kind of experimentation because we believe it’s the best way to create ground-breaking products that make a difference to people’s lives. But we’ve also always accepted that when you take these kinds of risks not every bet is going to pay off.”

All developers who had been working on Lively in Google Labs have been moved to other aspects of the company, mainly the internet behemoths strong points, advertising, search and applications. At least no one will be losing their job.

This marks an end of Google’s attempt to destroy the “corporate mentality” of the games industry.
