The high definition remake of The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay lives.
Starbreeze Studios’ remake of one of Xbox’s most surprisingly awesome titles almost bit the dust when Activision-Blizzard began dumping Vivendi’s old properties. Like Ghostbusters, 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand and Scarface 2, Escape from Butcher Bay was dumped and left without a publisher after the ax dropped.
Thankfully, Atari stepped in to pick up the title, now entitled The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, and even granted the developers an additional nine months to polish the action game. With the title already essentially done, the team spent its resources on creating new technologies, updating the game to incorporating them, and even added an extra campaign that will last around ten hours.
Dark Athena will be heading to PC, 360 and PS3 in March 2009.
I own the original, but have yet to play it. Despite that fact, I enjoy the testosterone filled universe of Riddick so much that I may pick up Dark Athena anyways.
