PlaySation 3’s trophy system becoming mandatory in 2009.
Sony Europe announces that PlayStation’s answer to the popular Xbox Achievements will be mandatory starting in 2009. That is 2009 people years, not the business 2009 which start in June, July, or 2011.
Users will be happy (or unhappy if systems continue to lock-up) to know that all titles released from January 2009 onward will be required to have trophy support to be approved by Sony. Previously, the decision to incorporate trophy support was up to the sole discretion of the creators, unlike Xbox developers. Although, some have patched support into their game post release.
“From Jan 09 all games must have trophies,” said the European rep. A response from the local American arm has not been made.
